The Wassily Chair Poster, because some designs are so good they deserve a wall.

In 1925, Hungarian designer Marcel Breuer, a student and later teacher at the Bauhaus in Dessau, created what would become one of the most recognisable chairs in history. Clean tubular steel frame. Black canvas seat and backrest. Zero excess. Pure function as pure form.

Legend has it the design was inspired by his bicycle's handlebars. Breuer named it after the Russian painter Wassily Kandinsky, his colleague at the Bauhaus, who loved the chair. A piece of furniture named after an abstract painter: very Bauhaus.

This print captures that elegance in all its rigour. Sober, precise, and quietly radical. Exactly the kind of art that gets better the longer you look at it.
